Interpreting your Quiz Results
In the tradition of yoga, we are seen as more than just a body or a mind. We are made of five layers of being, known as Koshas (Sanskrit for "sheaths" or "coverings"). Understanding these layers helps us move from the surface of our physical experience to our deepest, most peaceful self.
Annamaya Kosha
The Physical Body
Pranamaya Kosha
Life Force Energy
Manomaya Kosha
The Mind
Vijnanamaya Kosha
Wisdom and Intuition, Discernment
Anandamaya Kosha
Bliss State
Each of the lettered options in the quiz represented a different one of the five layers of you (the koshas), as follows:
A) = Anandamaya Kosha (bliss state)
This is your innermost core - a place of pure peace, joy, and connection that remains unchanged, even through the chaos of family life.
B) = Manomaya Kosha (the mind)
This is the layer of your thoughts, feelings, and the constant "mental load" of parenting. It’s where your daily stories and emotions live
C) = Annamaya Kosha (physical body)
This is your outermost layer: your skin, muscles, and bones. In matrescence, this layer is often where we feel the most intensity, from the physical changes of pregnancy to the exhaustion of postpartum.
D) = Pranamaya Kosha (life force energy)
This is your breath and your "life force". It’s the layer that determines if you feel vibrant and "full" or depleted and "running on empty"
E) = Vijnanamaya Kosha (wisdom and intuition, discernment)
This is your inner "knowing." It is the part of you that observes your thoughts and taps into your deeper wisdom as a parent, helping you make choices aligned with your values.
Firstly, take a look at which letters you chose at least once.
—> These are the layers of yourself that you are naturally connected with and likely spend time nurturing, perhaps without even realising.
Now, take a look at which letters you didn’t choose.
—> These are the layers of yourself that may feel less familiar for you, and may take a little more conscious effort and intention to nurture.
Having this understanding of which layers of yourself are currently well-supported can be affirming. Keep doing what you’re doing!
Bringing awareness to other layers of yourself can be an opportunity for bringing more balance and holistic support into your life.
Some of these concepts can be a little abstract - don’t worry, it’s taken me many years of study and applied practice to get omy head around the concept of the koshas! To help you, I’ve compiled some suggestions for supporting each kosha across each stage of matrescence. Just click on the stage that applies to you or the person you are supporting.
